West Des Moines Police Make Arrest in Overnight Walmart Incident: Update

On Saturday February 25, 2017 at 10:30 p.m. West Des Moines Police were called to Walmart located at 6365 Stagecoach Drive, West Des Moines in reference to a theft in progress. When officers arrived on scene, the suspect had fled the area and was believed to have stolen three shotguns and ammunition. Several agencies assisted West Des Moines in a search of the area in and around Walmart. The suspect was not located, but officers did locate three shotguns. Witnesses say a subject used a bat retrieved from the sporting goods area and used it to break the glass away from a gun case containing the shotguns.

On Sunday February 26, 2017 at around 2:45 hours, West Des Moines Police made an arrest in this case. Cody Allen Gebauer of Des Moines was arrested in connection with the incident. He was charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and taken to the Dallas County Jail. Theft charges are pending at this time.

The West Des Moines Police Department Case number regarding this incident is 17-00898.

The suspect is identified as: Cody Allen Gebauer 04-20-1989, 6’02, 215lbs, brown hair, brown eyes.

Update:

Cody Allen Gebauer has been charged with Criminal Mischief 3rd Degree and Theft 2nd Degree.

 

*A criminal charge is merely an accusation and a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
