The West Des Moines police Department will be outfitting all officers with body worn cameras by November 1st, 2017. This concludes our 18 month process of researching, testing and comparisons. During this project we conducted field test evaluations with five different manufacturer’s products.

Ultimately, the WatchGuard Vista body worn camera was found to best fit the needs of our department. The body worn camera will sync with our patrol vehicle camera system and will be automatically activate with patrol vehicle emergency lighting. Additionally, the camera can be manually activated by the officer at any time for documentation purposes.

The WatchGuard Vista body camera is water resistant and will operate in a temperature range from -4° to 149° F. The camera is capable of storing over nine hours of high definition video before content must be downloaded.

A demonstration video of our body cameras can be found on at: https://youtu.be/HRyJw_fBt64.
