On Saturday, October 28th, 2017 from 10:00 A.M. to 2:00 P.M. bring your unwanted medications to the West Des Moines Police Department parking lot located at 250 Mills Civic Parkway, West Des Moines, Iowa.

In partnership with the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) we will participate in this nationwide event and give the public the opportunity to prevent medication abuse and theft by removing potentially dangerous expired, unused, and unwanted prescription drugs from their homes. The service is free and anonymous with no questions asked. We participated in this event in April 2017 when over 450 tons were collected nationwide with Iowa collecting just under 6 tons.

If you are unable to make this event we would like to remind you there is a Med Return Box in the entryway of our police department that is available 24/7. Each month we average over 125 pounds of medications being returned to us for safe disposal.

*The DEA cannot accept liquids or needles or sharps, only pills or patches.
