With all businesses there are several regulations with which you must comply. The links below will get you in the right direction of knowing which regulations apply to you and who can help with each.

Iowa Business License Center  The City of West Des Moines does not require you to obtain a business license.  However, this site will help you decide which types of other licenses you may need.

Business Registration The Secretary of State website contains a great deal of information to help you meet state requirements for your business.

Employer Identification Number (EIN)
Application Every business is required to have an EIN on file with the IRS.  This site is the application form.

Health Codes Your business may be subject to health codes.  Contact the Iowa Department of Public Health Bureau of Environmental Health Services for more information.  For food safety codes contact theIowa Department of Inspections and Appeals.

Fats, Oils, and Grease (FOG) Ordinance
The City of West Des Moines FOG Ordinance may apply to any business that involves food preparation.

Zoning Regulations must be considered in determining which locations may work for your business and what the requirements of different zones will be.
