Location: Valley View Park, 255 81st Street
A master plan was prepared for Valley View Park in 2011 that gives the City the ability to transform a parcel of agricultural land into a functional public place that balances human activity with ecology and economy – the very definition of sustainability. The plan identifies several ecological zones that are integrated to mimic the processes of an ecologically-based rainwater system rather than an engineered or forced management of this system. The first phase of development was completed in 2013 using the principles identified in the master plan. Rainwater at Valley View Park is provided with multiple opportunities for infiltration and water quality improvement through a treatment train of bioinfiltration cells, wetlands, rock streams, channels, and drainage basins. Native trees, shrubs, grasses and forbs have been and will continue to be used throughout the park.
