South 50th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2016

Contractor:  Absolute Concrete

 

Project Overview:  The South 50th Street project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.

 

Project Status:  South 50th Street is open from Mills Civic Parkway to EP True Parkway.  The contractor has resumed work on fine grading, handicap ramps, HAWK signal and seeding.  The contractor will also perform additional patching on the inside lanes and smoothness grinding.

South 60th Street Improvements phase I & II

Estimated Start:  June 2016

Estimated Completion:  Phase I June 2017, Phase II December 2017

Contractor:  Concrete Technologies

 

Project Overview:  Reconstruction of South 60th Street from Grand Avenue to Mills Civic Parkway.  

 

Project Status:  South 60th Street is closed between Mills Civic Parkway and the east Pheasant Ridge drive.  The contractor has completed the installation of the 90” and 66” storm sewer pipes for Phase II.  The grading contractor is final grading and clean-up Phase I.  The week of April 24th they are planning to start moving dirt from the Phase I project to the Phase II project. They closed the east Pheasant Ridge drive.  The drive should reopen in June, pending weather. They will start pouring bike trail the week of April 24th.  The utility companies have completed their relocations.

South 88th Street Improvements

Estimated Start:  Spring 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2016

Contractor:  Hawkeye Paving

 

Project Overview:  The South 88th Street reconstruction project will include grading, utilities, and paving the roadway.

 

Project Status:  South 88th Street and Booneville Road are open.  The contractor will be mobilizing back to the project the week of April 24th.  They will be working on final grading, finishing the intersection work, seeding and turf restoration.

Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase II 

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall/Winter 2016

Contractor:  Raccoon River Valley

 

Project Overview:  The Fox Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Phase 2 is a continuation of the Fox Creek Trunk Sewer project begun in 2015.  This segment will extend sewer from the northern terminus of the Fox Creek Trunk Phase 1 Sewer to the intersection of 98th Street and Ashworth Road. 

 

Project Status:  

The overall project is approximately 90% complete.  The general contractor has installed all pipe and manholes with the exception of the wetlands area.  The wetlands issue remains unresolved.

Stagecoach drive extension over sugar creek

Estimated Start:  April 2016

Estimated Completion: September 2017

Contractor:  United Contractors

 

Project Overview:   This projects consists of building the bridge on Stagecoach Drive over Sugar Creek.  The size of the bridge is 135’x30’. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor started grubbing trees the week of April 17th.

Fairmeadows Park Storm Sewer Improvements Project 

Estimated Start:  Fall 2016

Estimated Completion:  May 2017

Contractor:  J&K Contractors

 

Project Overview:   The Fairmeadows Park Storm Sewer Improvements are necessary to address deficiencies with the existing culvert under 22nd Street just south of Vine Street.  Work included in this contract includes replacement of the culvert, additional stormwater intakes in street, demolition of existing park equipment, and rough grading of the park site. 

 

Project Status:   The road was reopened on 12/2/2016.  The contractor has installed a fence along the north sidewalk.  Turf restoration will occur as weather allows.

Stagecoach Drive Extension 

Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  Summer 2017

Contractor:  McAninch Corporation

 

Project Overview:   This project will connect Stagecoach Drive from South 93rd Street to South 88th Street. 

 

Project Status:   The contractor has started installing water main and storm sewer.  They started exporting excess soil this week.

Raccoon River Drive Bridge Replacement 
Estimated Start:  Fall 2016

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2017

Contractor:  Iowa Bridge & Culvert

 

Project Overview:  This projects consists of replacing the bridge on Raccoon River Bridge over Sugar Creek.  The size of the bridge is 204’x30’.

 

Project Status:  The contractor has closed the road.  They have poured the bridge deck, barrier rails and approaches.  They will install guardrail the week of April 24th.

Sugar Creek Trunk Sewer Extension Estimated Start:  Fall 2016

Estimated Completion:  February 2017

Contractor:  Rognes Corporation

 

Project Overview:  This project includes extension of approximately 547 feet of 12-inch trunk sewer south of the Tiburon development to serve Majestic Oaks.

 

Project Status:  Pipe installation is complete.  They will complete turf restoration when the weather allows.

Grand Avenue Siphon Replacement Project

Estimated Start:  Winter 2016

Estimated Completion:  May 2017

Contractor:  J&K Contracting

 

Project Overview:  This project will install 358 LF of 15” and 16” open cut sewer pipe and 280 LF of 15” tunneled sewer pipe with several manholes. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed the sewer line and sheet piling across Walnut Creek.  The bike trail has been re-opened. They will be replacing some areas of the driveway and parking lot that were impacted. Turf restoration will occur when weather allows this spring.

Grand Avenue West Segment 6F Sewer   Estimated Start:  Winter 2016

Estimated Completion:  June 2017

Contractor:  Valley Plumbing

 

Project Overview:  This project will install 3,871 LF of 15” and will include 163 LF of 15” tunneled sewer pipe with several manholes. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has started work on the project on the west side of Wendover Road.  They have completed the two road bores for the project. They are currently installing the sewer line west of Wendover Place.

2016 Sewer Cleaning and Televising Estimated Start:  Winter 2016

Estimated Completion:  April 2017

Contractor:  Visu-Sewer

 

Project Overview:  This project will consist of Type A Cleaning & Televising of approximately 37,000 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through forty-two inch (42”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Type C Root Removal of approximately 2,100 linear feet of eight inch (8”) through twenty-four inch (24”) diameter Sanitary Sewer, Cutting of any Protruding Taps, and other miscellaneous associated work.  

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed approximately 90% of the project.

Quail Park Sewer Channel Repair Estimated Start:  Winter 2017

Estimated Completion:  Summer 2017

Contractor:  RW Excavating & Dozing

 

Project Overview:  This project will repair a portion of the existing channel to protect the City sewer main.  The work will include grading, installing steel sheeting and rip rap. 

 

Project Status:  Contractor continues grading of the channel and rip rap placement.

Project Overview:  This project will replace 26 storm sewer intakes at various locations within the City.  

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed 15 intakes.

2016 Sewer Rehabilitation Program Estimated Start:  April 2017

Estimated Completion:  August 2017

Contractor:  Insituform Technologies USA

 

Project Overview:  This project will include Cured-In-Place Pipe (CIPP) lining of approximately 860 linear feet of fifteen-inch (15”) diameter sanitary sewer, approximately 1,291 linear feet of twenty-four-inch (24”) diameter sanitary sewer, and approximately 1,126 linear feet of thirty-six-inch (36”) diameter sanitary sewer and other miscellaneous associated work. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has started cleaning the lines.

Raccoon river park road drainage improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  6/30/2017

Project Overview:  Construction of the Raccoon River Park Road Drainage Improvements, including all materials, labor, and equipment necessary for the project including the approximate quantities: 2751 LF of HDPE subdrain, 9 subdrain cleanouts, 1225 CY of topsoil and seeding & fertilizing.

 

Project Status:  The contractor started work the week of April 17th.

public safety station #21 hvac improvements project Estimated Start:  In Progress

Estimated Completion:  05/09/2017

Contractor:  Woodruff Construction, LLC.

 

Project Overview:  The Project consists of the replacement of the mechanical systems serving the normally occupied portions of Public Safety Station 21 (all areas other than the vehicle bay). The existing mechanical systems serving these areas shall be removed, along with all system components other than those indicated to remain.  A new HVAC system shall be provided, including two boilers, an air-cooled chiller, a dedicated outside air air-handling unit, fan coil units, circulation pumps, distribution piping, new kitchen exhaust hood and make-up air unit, and ductwork.  Perimeter heating will be provided with heating hot water in select areas of the building. A new building automation system will be provided to serve all new mechanical system components. An alternate related to alternate building automation system manufacturers will be included as part of the bid. 

 

Project Status:  The contractor has completed approximately 70% of the project.

public safety station 18 Exterior improvements project Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Project Overview:  A remodeling project to provide a new single ply roof, a new metal roof, and other exterior envelope work at Station 18 at 5025 Grand Ave. Work includes selective demolition, concrete, masonry, metals, carpentry, insulation, windows, finishes, mechanical, electrical, and limited site work.

 

Project Status:  The contractor started work the week of April 17th.

Project Overview:  Portland Cement Concrete (PCC) Patching at various locations including approximately 3,381 SY of reinforced 7” PCC full depth patching, 120 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching, 802 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching, 215 SY of reinforced 8” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 530 SY of reinforced 9” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), 47 SY of reinforced 10” PCC full depth patching (IA DOT 5 Hr. PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter replacement, intake reconstruction, manhole adjustments, drives, sidewalks, traffic control, traffic loops, and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  This project is scheduled for letting on Wednesday April 26th.

PCC Mix), PCC curb and gutter, subdrain installation, sidewalks, traffic control and other miscellaneous work to complete the project.

 

Project Status:  This project is scheduled for letting on Wednesday April 26th.

2016 ADA Sidewalk Improvements Estimated Start:  Spring 2017

Estimated Completion:  09/15/2017

Contractor:  MNM Concrete Specialists

 

Project Overview:  The construction includes approximately 1,050 square yard (SY) of sidewalk removal, 520 SY of 4” P.C.C. sidewalk, 450 SY of 6” P.C.C. sidewalk, 45 SY of 6” reinforced P.C.C. trail, 1400 Linear Feet (LF) of curb removal, 1400 LF of curb and gutter, fixture adjustments, miscellaneous grading, restoration, traffic control, and other associated work.        

 

Project Status:  This project was let on Wednesday April 12th.  The project has not started yet.

Holiday Park Softball Complex - ADA Improvements

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016
Estimated Completion:  Fall 2016

Project Overview:  Concrete improvements in the Holiday Park Softball Complex located at 1701 Railroad Avenue. The improvements generally include paved sidewalks to meet ADA requirements, as well as stormwater improvements to improve drainage between fields.

 

Project Status: Project is substantially complete. Remaining items will be completed in Spring 2017.

Holiday Park Baseball Improvements - Phase 4B & 5

Project Overview:  Renovation of Fields, 7, 8, 9 and 10 in the Holiday Park Baseball Complex located at 1701 Railroad Avenue. The improvements generally include DEMOLITION of existing dugouts, portions of fencing and playing fields; EARTHWORK including installation of storm sewer utilities, field grading, soil amendments, installation of infield material, and warning track; CONSTRUCTION of new dugouts, fencing, and concrete walks; ELECTRICAL improvements including athletic field lighting for Fields 9 & 10; IRRIGATION system replacement; and complete field SODDING.

Woodland Hills Park Site Development

Estimated Start:  Summer 2016
Estimated Completion:  Spring 2017
Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Development of Woodland Hills Park located at 1230 S. 95th Street. Improvements include construction of a 2-5 and 5-12 yr-old playground; shelter; restroom; parking lot; and concrete walks. Water quality measures will also be incorporated including permeable pavers; bioretention cells; and soil restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed installing majority of playground equipment, paved walkways, parking lot and footings associated with the shelter and restroom building.  Remaining work is scheduled to be completed in Spring 2017.

Brookview Park Trail Connection

Project Overview:  Extension of the 10' wide concrete trail inside Brookview Park. Trail segment will connect park trail to existing multi-use trail along 81st St. Project includes grading, paving, and site restoration.

 

Project Status: Contractor has completed grading, associated paving and backfilling of trail. Site restoration will take place in the Spring.

Fairmeadows Park - Playground Renovation

Project Overview:  Last Fall a City Engineering project to replace a storm sewer pipe under Locust Street directly impact the park including removal of the playground equipment, volleyball court, portions of sidewalk, misc tree removals, and stream channel reconstruction. This Spring, a separate Parks project will be contracted to restore the park including new playground equipment, sidewalks, and site restoration. During these projects, the park will remain closed to the public.

JORDAN CREEK PARK COMMUNITY GARDENS - WATER SERVICE INSTALLATION

Estimated Completion:  Fall 2016
Contractor:  Joiner Construction, Inc.
Project Overview:  Installation of a permanent water service line as part of the expansion of the WDM Community Garden Program. Scope of work includes installation of a water service line, associated plumbing and installation of hose bib assemblies. In addition, City staff will be tilling ground to accommodate approximately 80 new garden plots. The new community gardens are expected to be ready for the 2017 garden season. For information on the program or to inquire about renting a plot, contact Melanie at 222-3435.

 

Project Status: City staff has staked and tilled the areas where the new garden plots will be located. Contractor has installed water line and associated plumbing fixtures. Site restoration of disturbed areas will take in place in the Spring 2017
