Physical Description:
This triple angled storefront plan mirrors and reverses that located at 131-35 Fifth. The plan measures 50 feet by 70 feet. The facade brickwork is a thin Roman brick that is laid in running bond with a consistent one brick width overlap relative to adjacent courses. There is a thicker boxed cornice. Pilasters separate the storefronts and each entry is on the right-hand side. The current aluminum class storefronts were extant as of 1968. There is a fourth Elm Street storefront with door and double-display window and this served the bakery. Two rear entrances serve as many store areas.
Documented Alterations:
The Cornwell Law Office updated the electrical service in 1966, heating in 1961 and 1971 and electrical as 231/233. Dr. Conningsby revised the plumbing in 1969. Carriage Florist had electrical work done in 1981. Morrissey Jewelry did the same in 1986.
Commercial History:
The addresses for this building are not helpful in locating tenants, let alone their specific storefront locations. The original tenants were Cornwell, the Crivaro barbershop and the Omar Retail Bakery (Register, June 5, 12, 1955).
