Physical Description:

This building is identical in every respect to 208 Fifth.

Documented Alterations:

What is for certain is that this north half of the building followed the south half by a year.  A confusing account (Register, May 17, 1952) describes how the Banner Variety had to close when the floor dropped two inches when rain water collapsed a brick foundation “on the north side where a new store is being built.”  This was a two-story brick building.  The replacement was to be single story, 25 feet by 100 feet.  Jacobsen stated that he “would not reopen [Banner?] until he can move into the new building in about four weeks.”  The only changes apart from the rear addition (see 208) is the loss of a double door (1968) and the addition of a boxed wooden cornice in lieu of an awning. Harry Jacobson acquired this half lot in 1945 and built this building 1952, obtaining the permit for a $15,000 building in mid-July (Express, July 10, August 14, 1952). It replaced the G. W. Hawks building that was built in 1915 (Tribune, September 8, 1915).
