FIREWORKS ARE ILLEGAL TO DISCHARGE WITHIN THE CITY LIMITS OF WEST DES MOINESno fireworks

Consumer fireworks are not allowed to be discharged within the city limits of West Des Moines at any time. This includes, but is not limited to, shells & mortars, roman candles, bottle rockets, fountains, and firecrackers. Sparklers, snakes, and party snappers are allowed.

The West Des Moines City Council voted to ban the use of consumer fireworks within city limits on October 16, 2017. 

Fireworks are legal to sell and purchase in West Des Moines. On April 21, 2022, the State of Iowa passed a law allowing the sale of consumer fireworks in cities. For information on the sale of consumer fireworks, click here

Help us reduce fires and injuries and leave the fireworks to trained professionals. There will be a fireworks display held at the City Hall campus on July 4 at dusk.
