A candidate profile is equivalent to an on-line employment application that can be used to apply for a job posting.
Why do I need to create a profile?
In order to apply for any job postings, you must first create a candidate profile. A link to create a candidate profile can be found in the Job Posting section under Employment. For additional information or to view screen shots, refer to the Instructional Sheet.
When I create a Candidate Profile, do I still need to apply for a position?
Yes, in order to be considered for a specific position, you will need to click on Finish & Apply. Creating a candidate profile saves your personal information in the system, but DOES NOT submit your on-line application to job postings.
How do I apply for a position?
You can only apply for a position, AFTER you have created a candidate profile.
You can view a list of the open positions in the Job Posting section under Employment. By clicking on the position, you will be able to view a job profile (or description) of this position. If you are interested in applying for the position after reviewing the job profile, click on Apply to this Posting at the bottom of the page.
You can apply for more than one position at a time, but you must click individually on each job that you are interested in.
If there are not any jobs listed under the Job Postings section, the City currently does not have any open positions.
If I create a profile, will it be on file indefinitely?
Candidate profiles will be considered inactive 3 years after the record was initially created.
How do I update my profile?
It is recommended that you review and make changes to your profile on a regular basis to make sure that the City has your most current information.
Once you have logged in you can click between the sections under the My Applicant Profile tab. Make sure to click Save! .

Can I apply for a position that is not yet posted on the website?
Applications are only accepted for open recruitments, so you can not apply for a position unless it is listed under the Job Postingsection.
How do I know what positions are available?
All positions that the City of West Des Moines is accepting applications for will be listed under the Find Jobs section once you have created a profile.
You can also view job postings on the City of West Des Moines website at www.wdm.iowa.gov by clicking on Job Postings in the Employment section.
Will I hear from the City once I have applied for a position?
Once you have applied for a position, you will receive an instant confirmation on the screen.
The City of West Des Moines will notify you of the status of your application after all application materials have been reviewed. Because of the volume of the applications that the City receives, this can take up to one month after the job posting has expired.
What do I need to do if I have to logout before I have finished my candidate profile?
If you are not able to finish your candidate profile after logging in, you can complete the information at a later time. Make sure to click Save before exiting. However you must complete your profile, including any required attachments, and apply before the posted deadline in order to be considered. Late or incomplete applications will not be accepted.
How do I reset my password?
Click on "Forgot Password?" on the main login screen. You will be emailed a link to update your password.
Where can I apply if I do not have access to a computer?
If you do not have access to a computer but would like to apply for a posting, you can visit the Human Resources Department or the West Des Moines Library, during normal business hours, where computers are available for public use.
