The two full-time Iowa EMS Alliance trucks carry Ferno EZ Glide Stair Chairs. These power stair chairs easily move 500 lb. patients both up and down stairs with very little physical exertion from the user. The PowerTraxx are an option that can be added to Ferno Stair Chairs or both can be purchased initially as a whole unit. These PowerTraxx use an electronically controlled motor and direct drive transmission, which carry the pt's weight, instead of the operator working to move the patient. The controls are paddle-style and easy to use. An electronic brake locks the tracks during stops on ascents and descents. This unit runs on a Milwaukee rechargeable lithium ion battery.
