In an effort to reduce the number of back injuries that EMS personnel sustain anually, WDM EMS purchased Stryker Power cots for every ambulance. These cots raise and lower, at the touch of a button, using a battery-powered hydraulic system. In case of power loss, the cots will still operate manually. The head end of the cot shortens to fit in tight spaces. The foot end of the cot will raise to place the patient in Trendelenberg position. The mattress on the cot has an indentation on either side of the head portion to allow safe use of shoulder straps. The SMRT battery system comes with a charging unit that is mountable in the ambulance so a spare, fully charged battery is always available.
