In April 2012, WDM EMS and the Iowa EMS Alliance purchased five Zoll X-series monitor/defibrillators to replace the E-series monitors that were being currently used. West Des Moines EMS was the first service in the United States to receive the new model. The X-series is an upgrade from the E-series in a few ways:

-The X-series has a multi-color display that is easy to read.

-The X-series weighs less than 12 lbs.

-The X-series has the same capabilities as the E-series (pacing, monitoring, defibrillating) but can also perform invasive temperature and arterial pressure monitoring.

-The X-series is both Bluetooth and Wi-Fi capable. It is the first monitor/defibrillator with Wi-Fi. It also has a USB port that allows for downloading of cardiac strips, 12 lead EKGs, and vital signs.

-The X-series has a unique dual-lumen automatic blood pressure cuff that takes on blood pressure on inflation and deflation of the cuff, then averages the two for an incredibly accurate blood pressure reading.

-The X-series has a lithium-ion battery that lasts for up to 6 hours.
