West Des Moines is working collaboratively with the cities of Clive, Urbandale, and Waukee to develop suitable guidelines and ordinances which will address Stormwater Management while meeting the National Pollutant Discharge Elimination System (NPDES) requirements within these communities. Each city will be implementing Best Management Practices (BMPs) for six minimum control measures in an attempt to reduce pollutants discharged to the Municipal Separate Storm Sewer System (MS4). The six minimum control measures listed in the City of West Des Moines' MS4 Permit are:

  1. Public Education and Outreach
  2. Public Involvement and Participation
  3. Illicit Discharge Detection and Elimination
  4. Construction Site Stormwater Runoff Control
  5. Post-Construction Stormwater Management
  6. Pollution Prevention and Good Housekeeping
