West Des Moines, IA
Home MenuIt was a warm spring day a few years back, when one of the on duty firefighters peered out the window and spotted a statuesque figure of a Dalmatian sitting in front of the station sign.
Surprised by this discovery, the crew ventured out to investigate this mysterious appearance. After a brief survey of the situation, they were unable to determine how the dog suddenly appeared. To this day, no one has stepped forward to accept credit for this delivery, although the Public Services Department remains high on our suspect list.
A year or so later, around Father's Day, a new discovery was made; a small Dalmatian pup showed up next to the older one. The pup kept the other one company for quite some time before suddenly disappearing, possibly straying off for good.
When the news of this got out to the neighborhoods, thanks to the help of the local media, the search was on. With the help of some concerned and caring school children, not just one, but two new pups showed next to the original Dalmatian.
Since their arrival, they have become permanent fixtures, mascots so to speak, of Station 17. Periodically, they can be spotted sporting costumes to celebrate various holidays, events and seasons.
Be sure to walk or drive by to see what the dogs are wearing next!
