Applying for a Position

When applying for a position, you will need to complete a City of West Des Moines Online Application.  The appropriate job announcement will indicate if other materials are required for the position. You must apply for the position by submitting all required materials for the job being applied for.

You will only be allowed to apply for positions that are posted, however, you may maintain an online application (candidate profile) with the City. Only applicants that have applied for a position within the posted dates and have a complete profile will be considered for employment.

Computers are available in Human Resources for public use during normal business hours. Computers are also available at the West Des Moines Library during normal business hours.

Applications and other designated materials as specified in the job announcement (e.g. application supplements, business references, transcripts, etc.) must be received by the posted application deadline date in order to be considered.

Minimum Qualifications

Your qualifications will be evaluated based on the information you provide in your online application (candidate profile). It is very important that you fill out the application materials completely, even if you attach a resume. Do not state "see resume" or leave the Details field blank when asked to describe your responsibilities, experience, pay, etc. For your application to get the consideration it deserves, please include all experience that may apply to the job (i.e. volunteer experience, licenses, professional affiliations, training you have received, etc.)


Post Offer Exams, Background Checks and Immigration Status

Job offers are made pending a driver's license check, medical examination, alcohol/drug testing, and/or a polygraph/background investigations. In these cases, if you are currently working, DO NOT quit your current job until all required steps have been completed.
