SWIM LESSONS
West Des Moines Parks and Recreation provides swim lessons in the summer season!
Whether you're only in, on, or around the water in the summer, you live near the beach or have a pool, you want to swim for exercise or pleasure, already know the basics or are beginning anew, West Des Moines Parks and Recreation offers American Red Cross swim classes for people of all ages and abilities. Designed for all levels, classes allow swimmers to develop good habits in, on, and near water, become comfortable in the water, learn and refine new strokes, and become stronger, safer swimmers.

Classes Offered:
> Parent & Me: This self-guided program provides and opportunity for parents and their young children to explore the water together. (Ages 1 - 3)
> Pre-School 1: Water Exploration: Students will learn to put their face under water, blow bubbles, and kick with support on their front and back. (Ages 3 - 4)
> Pre-School 2: Water Navigation: Children will learn to kick and glide on their front and back without support and learn very basic swimming skills. (Ages 3 - 4)
> Level 1: Introduction to Water Skills: Students will learn how to feel comfortable in the water and safely enjoy it. (Ages 5+)
> Level 2: Fundamentals of Aquatic Skills: Children will learn basic swimming skills. (Ages 5+)
> Level 3: Stroke Development: Additional guided practice will help students improve their skills.
> Level 4: Stroke Improvement: Develops confidence in the skills learned and improves other aquatic skills.
> Level 5: Stroke Refinement: Provides further coordination and refinement of strokes.
> Adult Swim Lessons: Learn to swim or improve your skills. (Ages 16+)
Safety around water and sun comes in many forms. Both aquatic centers had free sunscreen available on-hand thanks to the 2023 Sun-Safety Community Project. This program is made possible by the Iowa Cancer Consortium and the Iowa Department of Health and Human Services.
