Confluence

Created by David Zahn; Moline, IL

After being shown in the 2022 Art on the Campus Exhibit, Confluence was purchased and gifted to the City of West Des Moines permanent artwork collection by the family of Brenda Sedlacek who served on the Public Arts Advisory Commission from 2011 to 2023.

The figure in the sculpture is larger than life-size. The base leans to one side and slightly forward, creating an off-balance interplay between the two elements. The body emerges from twisting and turning forms that flow together. In sum, Confluence reflects the shifting nature of life and the constant change in our human experience. We learn and adapt as we strive to find balance. We grow and change over the years, meeting challenges with strength and flexibility.

Confluence in located in front of West Des Moines City Hall (4200 Mills Civic Parkway).
