Limelight

Created by Tim Adams; Webster City, IA

Historic Valley Junction is the gathering place that is the heart and soul of West Des Moines – a delightful mix of old and new, bridging generations with unique shops, vibrant events and a walkable hometown feel. Historic Valley Junction is West Des Moines’ original main street.

The Light Valley Junction Public Art Work Group wanted to celebrate the past, present and future of this unique place through a public work of art. The Work Group wanted every person who experiences this specific commissioned artwork to feel a sense of excitement and a connection to the community. The Work Group hoped residents and visitors would be enticed to engage with the artwork and feel alive in its presence.

Working closely with the Light Valley Junction Public Art Work Group, artist Tim Adams proposed, designed, fabricated, and installed "Limelight". The public was asked to submit ideas for the name of the artwork. Over 50 suggestions were submitted, with "Limelight" picked as the official name.

Adams intentionally refrained from giving the artwork a description, desiring that each viewer interpret the artwork in their own way.

"Limelight" was officially unveiled to the public at a Meet the Artist event held during the Valley Junction Farmers Market on September 23, 2021.

"Limelight" is located in the walkway on the west side of the 200 block of 5th Street.
