West Des Moines police officers will conduct high visibility traffic enforcement on Beggar's Night October 30th. In conjunction with the Governor’s Traffic Safety Bureau (GTSB), officers will provide heightened enforcement of all traffic violations with the main goal of raising awareness in safety belt use and identifying individuals choosing to drive under the influence of drugs or alcohol. The increased enforcement is intended to serve as a reminder for drivers to obey all traffic laws and to help keep Iowa roadways safe.

Trick-or-treaters can keep these easy safety tips in mind as they collect their goodies.

  • Children under 12 should have adult supervision

  • Stay on sidewalks

  • Cross streets at corners, using traffic signals and crosswalks

  • Take your phone but limit usage to avoid being distracted

  • Use reflective tape or stickers, especially on dark costumes

  • Masks can restrict vision, consider face paint instead
