Since 1996, our department has been accredited by the Commission on Accreditation for Law Enforcement Agencies (CALEA), the premier accreditation body for policing in the nation. As one of the 11 accredited law enforcement agencies in the state of Iowa, our department is committed to meeting the standards of excellence required to maintain this prestigious recognition. Achieving the advanced accreditation status requires that we meet almost 400 standards of performance and demonstrate compliance with them every year.

Accreditation drives our process of continuous improvement through regular reviews of policies and procedures to ensure that we are following best practices and addressing the needs and expectations of our growing community. Not only does this benefit the community through the delivery of quality police services, but it also provides value through greater accountability within our department, increased community advocacy, and reduced risk and liability exposure.

In addition to the many channels open for community input, our department also offers a public comment portal through our accrediting body. The purpose of this public comment portal is to receive comments regarding our compliance with CALEA standards, engagement in the service community, delivery of public safety services, and overall candidacy for accredited status. These comments can be in the form of commendations or concerns.
