Mowing Roadside and Median

The Public Services Department is responsible for mowing most of all the paved and gravel rural road right of ways within the City corporate limits. The City typically makes one pass on both sides of the road on an "as needed" basis (about 3 or 4 times a year). All street island maintenance is performed by the Parks Maintenance division of Public Services.

The City is responsible for mowing rural cross sections while private property owners are responsible for mowing urban cross sections, which would be any adjacent property where a curb has been installed.  If the urban cross section has a trail or sidewalk in place, the private property owner is responsible to mow from the curb to one (1) foot beyond the paved trail or sidewalk.  If there is no trail or sidewalk, the private property owner is responsible to mow ten (10) feet from the curb (mowing around any fire hydrants or signage).

All mowing issues on private property must be referred to our Community Compliance Division at (515) 222-3480, or reported on: SeeClickFix.  Please call Public Services at (515) 222-3480 with questions regarding any mowing issues that occur within the City right of way.
